This series is about people who want to live without hiding a part of who they are.
For me, the issue is not only what a person’s identity is or how they define themselves. The question is whether they can be themselves where they live; whether they can love, make choices, and feel that they belong there.
The countryside in this series is not only a backdrop. It is a place where life seems closer, where other people’s gazes are felt more strongly, and where the relationship between people and their surroundings is more intimate. In such a space, the question of being seen and accepted takes on a different meaning.
Instead of creating an image of the “other”, I wanted to come closer to the person themselves; to moments of everyday life, relationships, the body, the gaze, solitude, intimacy, and freedom.
Do we have to leave a place in order to be ourselves?
Or can we live freely in the very place we call home?
For me, these photographs are an attempt to see queer life not from the outside, but from close by; as part of everyday life and as part of human diversity.
Because belonging should not mean that we have to change ourselves in order to be accepted.
Every person has the right to have a place where they can be themselves.
